Artists and dignitaries celebrated the opening of a new exhibition at Richmond Art Gallery Saturday.
In Transition: New Art from India is a co-presentation with the Vancouver Biennale and runs until June 13, coinciding with Asian Heritage Month.

Saturday's reception included a performance by local Bhangra dancers from the Kwantlen Bhangra Club.
The exhibition features installation-based work by some of India's most recognized contemporary artists: Shilpa Gupta, Reena Kallat, Thukral and Tagra, TV Santhosh, Sudarshan Shetty and Hema Upadhyay.
With an eye on its past and a view to the future, these artists are examining the social, political, economic and religious implications of becoming a major world economy.

The gallery is located at 7700 Minoru Gate. It's open weekdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
