Bharat Sikka: "Space in between"
December 1st to 29th, 2007

Bose Pacia Kolkata is proud to present a solo exhibition of color photographs by Bharat Sikka.
Born in 1973 in Karnataka, the photographer is now based in New Delhi.

Bharat Sikka moved from India to New York in the late 1990s to pursue his career in photography and to study at Parsons School of Design. He earned his BFA in photography and since then his work has been published in magazines such as ID, Marie Claire, Vogue India, Time, Wallpaper and Details. He has been commissioned to shoot advertising campaigns for both Air France and Hyundai.
In addition to his commercial assignments, Sikka pursues subjects of his own choosing. "Space in between" concentrates on his landscape work shot in India, highlighting the changes taking place in the country today as well as the timeless beauty of its varied terrain. Primarily urban landscapes, Sikka's vision is boldly formalist and eschews the colorful clichés of tourist India. The prints are large scale and in their subtle color palettes and balanced compositions seem more akin to painting than photography.
